This hillside conversion of an understory basement reclaims the space between the extremely steep slope and a compact one story, mid-century house. Tactical excavations allow for the subterranean addition of a guest suite as well as a spacious media room and gallery for the display of the clients acclaimed contemporary art collection. A sculptural cantilevered wood stair connects the gallery to the main residence above.
