wild oak residence | los angeles, ca

This hillside conversion takes full advantage of the space reclaimed between an extremely steep slope and a compact one story, mid-century house. Tactical excavation and underpinning allowed for the insertion of a series of programmatic volumes into the hillside making way for an addition of a guest suite as well as a spacious gallery for the display of the clients contemporary art collection consisting of large scale photographs and paintings. Outside, a cantilevered pool, terrace and deck symbolically "create space from thin air" rendering a once unusable hillside into a recreational sculpture garden.
